We just got back from church. Konrad and I were happy to of found our Easter basket under the front porch ~ too cute.
A couple weeks ago Brendan and I made Ukrainian style Easter eggs at the Alsdorf's house. We've been going over there and making these eggs for three years now. Allison has various books on the method, though I have yet to make an egg like in the books. It's like having a blank canvas and you could put anything on it - why do what the books say? (such a rebel) My goal was to do the four seasons. I completed Spring in 2007, Summer in 2008, and this year I crammed in Fall and Winter.
We plan on making this our own tradition, so next year we'd like to have all the supplies needed. The process is pretty simple, what you create is a whole different story because you need to think backwards, applying your colors from light to dark throughout this layering technique with the hot wax. I found this site, it best describes the process and the supplies if you are interested. What I love is spending the day at a big table full of tools and colors and good friends. It reminds me of those days when I was little, coloring in books and talking about frivolous stuff as the afternoon went by. Ordering pizza is a must too.
Happy Easter!
